Activities for Adults

Crime and Cocktails-an evening with Sara Sheridan – Enjoy an evening with Sara Sheridan, author of the Mirabelle Bevan mysteries and a number of stand-alone historical novels based on real life explorers of the British Empire.  Sara will talk about her career as a writer and how she became inspired by the 1950s.  This will be a fascinating and fun evening.  Includes a book signing and refreshments.

From the Crinoline to the New Look: Fashion in Photographs, 1850-1950 – Help us celebrate World Book Night with professional costume historian, portrait specialist and “photo detective” Jayne Shrimpton, who  will be talking about fashion in family photographs 1850-1950. Bring your own family photos for a dating session after the talk.

Creative Writing Workshop-Plot: the Magic Ingredients – Sign up for our Creative Writing Workshop with Virginia MacGregor, who will be examining the key elements to plot, how a good plots taps into our natural, psychological responses to story and how plot and character are inextricably linked.

Reminiscence  Clubs in Wokingham Borough’s  Libraries – Reminiscence Clubs run in three of the borough’s libraries and each month there is a different topic for discussion from times gone by. During the April meetings the subject will be the years 1955-1960. The clubs run at Wokingham Library on the first Thursday of each month, Twyford Library on the first Tuesday in each month, and Woodley Library on the last Thursday in each month, all between 10.30am and 12 noon. Just drop-in!

Young People’s Activities

Little Explorers Book Club – The Little Explorers book club Library challenge is for children aged 7 and under. Each child needs to have their own library card to join the library challenge. Every time you borrow some books you collect a stamp, after 6 stamps you will receive one of our certificates. Our special Little Explorers storytime this April is Springtime Fun. Just drop in and hear some springtime stories, rhymes and craft. £1.50 charge.

Children’s Events this Easter

Animal Habitats – Quirks Animal Roadshow will take children on a journey through different animal’s habitats, allowing children to interact with the animals that live there. For families with children aged 4 to 12 years old. Please phone to book a place, £3.50 per child.

Bracelets Making – Just drop in and make some friendship or charm bracelets. For children aged 6 and over. £2 charge per item.  Wokingham Library on Wednesday 8 April  at  10am to 11.30am

Illustrator event with Steve Antony – Meet the author of The Queen’s Hat, Please Mr Panda and other fun picture books. With drawing activity too, books will be available for purchase. For families with children aged 8 and under. Please book a place. £2 charge. On Thursday 16 April at Wokingham Library 10.30am to 11.30am and Woodley Library 2pm to 3pm

Get Arty – Drop in craft session. For children 12 and under. £1.50 charge at Lower Earley Library Thursday 16 April 2pm to 3pm and Wokingham Library Friday 17 April 10.30am to 11.30am

Monsters Love Underpants – Come dressed in monster fancy dress, create your own monster mask, with storytelling and fun activity sheets too. For children aged 8 and under. £1.50 charge. Session will be running at Finchampstead Library Wednesday 8 April 9.45am to 10.30am – places must be booked, Wokingham Library Thursday 9 April 10.30am to 11.15am – just drop in, Twyford Library Monday 13 April 2pm to 2.45pm – just drop in, Wargrave Library Monday 13 April 3.15pm to 4pm – just drop in.  All events must be booked, unless otherwise stated, so contact the relevant Library.

Little Red Riding Puppet Activity Session – Puppet storytelling with games and craft. Free session for 5 to 8 year olds.  Wokingham Library Tuesday 7 April 10am to 11.30am. Call (0118) 978 1368 to book a place.

Free Swimming for Age 18 and under is back this Easter – If you are 18 or under and have a Wokingham Borough Library Card, you can swim for free between Friday April 3 to Sunday April 19  inclusive at Carnival Pool, Loddon Valley Leisure Centre and Bulmershe Leisure Centre.  For further information please contact Wokingham Direct on (0118) 9746000 or visit www.wokingham.gov.uk/freeswimming
