Woodley Library 30th Anniversary Celebrations

Woodley Library opened on its present site on May 12, 1986. To celebrate Woodley’s 30th anniversary we are running a number of events for customers old and new!

Eighties Quiz Evening- Charity Quiz Evening to celebrate the library’s 30th Birthday. Book for teams of up to 6 people or as an individual. £3 charge

Tuesday May 10, 7pm

Birthday Celebration Breakfast-Help us celebrate our 30th birthday! Just drop-in and enjoy a Bucks Fizz or juice and a Danish pastry. Free Event.

Thursday May 12, 9am to 11am

Eighties Tribute Evening- Enjoy music from the Eighties with Groove Foundation . £5 charge, book in advance or pay on the door.

Thursday May 12, 8pm to 10pm. Doors open from 7.30pm

Reminiscence Birthday Event- Discuss your memories of the Eighties as part of the library’s birthday celebrations, just drop-in. Free Event

Woodley Library Birthday Rhymetime- Rhymes and songs for children aged 5 and under, just drop-in!

Woodley Library Tuesday May 10, 10.30am to 11am

Children’s Reminiscence Session- Enjoy finding out about toys from the Eighties, for children 4-12 years, just drop-in!

Woodley Library Thursday May 12, 3.30pm to 4.30pm

Madhatters Birthday Tea-Party- Come and celebrate the library’s 30th birthday with biscuit decorating, hatmaking, party games and more. £2 charge, please call the library to book a place.

Saturday May 14, 2.30pm to 3.30pm

Birthday Storytime For children aged 5 years old and under. Free, Just drop in! Saturday May 14,11am to 11.30am

Birthday Bunting will be on display all week, which has been created by the children from the schools all across Woodley. Staff at the library have also created a wall frieze and time line to illustrate the special events that have taken place at the library over 3 decades.

Activities for Adults

Jack Tar: Life in Nelson’ Navy- An illustrated talk with historians Roy and Lesley Adkins about the lives of the ordinary seamen and marines who were the backbone of Nelson’s navy. £3 charge

Wokingham Library Wednesday May 18, 2.30pm to 3.30pm

Walking Book Group-Enjoy the fresh air and a chat about books as we walk around the lake at Dinton Pastures. Meet at the Dragon Fly café-book to be discussed is The First Exotic Marigold Hotel by Deborah Moggach, copies available from Wokingham Library. Free Event

Thursday, May 26, 10.30am to 11.30am

Bats!- A talk with David Endacott of the Oxfordshire Bat group who will describe the care and life style of bats and will bring some injured bats to look at. £3 charge. For adults and children over 7 years old.

Activities for children

Elmer Day Storytime-Celebrate Elmer Day with a story and colouring activity. Just drop in on Saturday May 28 at  Woodley Library 11am to 11.30am and Wokingham Library, 11am to 11.30am

Explore Learning – Free session with Explore Learning on Tuesday May 31, Places must be booked at Wokingham Library.

Tracey Beaker for children aged 8 to 10 years old 9.30am to 10.30am

Gruffalo for children aged 5 to 6 years old 10.45am to 11.45 am

Get Arty- Just drop in and make some royal crowns, paper chains and decorate a card to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday. For children aged 5 and over. £1.50 charge.

Finchampstead Library Tuesday May 31, 2.15pm to 3.15pm

Meet the Creatures-Activity morning from the Rangers from Dinton Pastures for the under 12’s. £1 charge , just drop-in!

Wokingham Library Saturday May 28, 10.30am to 11.30am

Spiral Workshop – Come and create your own spiral mobile, which you can paint and decorate. All materials are supplied. For children aged 7 to 12 years old. £5 charge. Places must be booked. Woodley Library Tuesday May 31 10am to 11.30am

Little Explorers Book Club Activities

The Little Explorers book club library challenge is for children aged 7 and under. Children collect a stamp each time they visit the library and borrow books. When they have collected 6 stamps they receive a certificate. We also run story and rhyme activities for the under 5’s. Storytime session will be at the following libraries in May:

  • Finchampstead Library – Friday May 6, 11am to 11.30am
  • Lower Earley Library –  Thursday May 12, 10.30am to 11am
  • Maiden Erlegh Library – Saturday May 15, 10.15am to 10.45am
  • Wargrave Library – Saturday May 7, 10.30am to 11am
  • Wargrave Library – Every Monday, 4pm to 4.30pm
  • Winnersh Library – Wednesday May 4, 10.15am to 10.45am
  • Wokingham Library – every Tuesday, 4pm to 4.30pm
  • Woodley Library – Saturday May 14 10.30am to 11am
