The Good, the Bad and the Unlucky-a talk with Kathy Martin at Wokingham Library

lr-the-good-the-bad-the-unlucky-14-12-16-page-001Local author Kathy Martin will be giving an illustrated talk about the origins of some of our most popular consumer brands. Copies of her book Famous Brand Names and Their Origins will also be on sale.

The Good, the Bad & the Unlucky

In her brand new book, Famous Brand Names and Their Origins, author Kathy Martin shines a light on the origins of some of our most popular consumer brands. A fascinating aspect of the book is the emergence of a colourful cast of characters who brought these brands into our homes, amongst them daring entrepreneurs, Non-Conformist businessmen, plucky widows, brilliant refugees and forward-thinking philanthropists as well as a handful of decidedly racy characters.

In her entertaining and informative talk, The Good, the Bad & the Unlucky, the author introduces a selection of well known brands and delivers a potted history of the people behind their development. Prepare for tales of family devotion, dogged perseverance, tragedy and even a touch of scandal!

Kathy has also written about her book in the Express : http://www.express.co.uk/entertainment/books/744871/Kathy-Martin-book-names-behind-products-Bisto-PG-Tips-Hovis

This piece in the Mail Online briefly made Kathy an Amazon bestseller!

Book examines origins of the world’s favourite brands

News and Events from Wokingham Borough Libraries February 2017

News and Events from Wokingham Borough Libraries  February  2017

Advance notice of temporary library closures in March 2017

In June 2016 Wokingham Borough Council agreed a new Library Offer for the borough to establish and promote the activities that our residents can expect when using our libraries

Following on from our consultation in early 2016, a key part of this decision was to introduce self-service within a number of libraries to make it easier for people to check-out and return the items they borrow and to free up some valuable staff time so that our libraries can be open for longer each week. From Monday 3rd April, self-service will be available within Wokingham, Woodley, Lower Earley, Twyford, Finchampstead and Winnersh libraries and our new library opening hours will be introduced providing an extra 17½ hours of service per week.

To prepare for these improvements we will need to carry out changes to some of the library buildings which will mean services are temporarily unavailable for a short time.

  Library closes Library re-opens
