Alternative Therapies and Pamper Evening at Woodley Library July 17 – Therapist profiles

Woodley Library will host a summer’s evening of alternative therapies and pampering on Monday 17th July. Doors will open at 6.30pm to a packed evening of talks, demonstrations and treatments from a wide range of locally based practitioners and therapists. Tickets are just £3 (available in advance from the library) and the majority of therapists will make no additional charge on the evening (booking essential for some treatments) making this an ideal opportunity to try something new, have your questions answered on a treatment you’ve been thinking about or maybe just having a little “you” time, relaxing with a light refreshment in the courtyard garden.

Let us introduce you to two of our therapists for the Alternative Therapies and Pamper Evening at Woodley Library on Monday July 17.

Anna Suchodolska – Massage Therapist

Anna Suchodolska picAnna moved to the Reading area from London 2 years ago and liked it instantly. She has since made new friends and continued networking with people. She enjoys social events, both participating and organising them but also likes spending time walking and contemplating nature. Her cat, Ray, who has been a wonderful companion over many years, has played a significant role in ‘teaching’ her a few tips on relaxation techniques.

Anna initially took her ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Massage to help her husband with his back problems. She was fascinated to discover that following treatment on stressed muscles the response was one of ease on the whole person. She is curious about how the body can sometimes demonstrate its ability to heal itself with very little external influence, believing that massage should in no way be invasive but support the body’s ability for self-healing.

Anna will offer a 15 minute neck, shoulder and back massage in complete privacy (donations will be welcome) and looks forward to meeting you on the evening.

Anna Jones – Body Image Coach

Anna J Prof PicAnna of “Time to Sort it” is one of the fantastic four speakers we have for the evening and is truly one not to miss; she will be taking to the stage at 8pm with her talk, “Boost Your Body Image”

Anna is a woman with a mission – to help long term serial dieters get off the hamster wheel of fresh starts and “Oh no, I’ve blown it again!” She wants to help them realise that life is too short to be stuck in the frustration, disappointment and self-loathing that comes with this “on it, off it” cycle.

Her message is “it is time to accept and respect that amazing body of yours so that you can treat it in a way that it deserves” but does warn that “the by-product of this approach is that you may accidentally release some weight!”

You can find out more about Anna on her website https://timetosortit.com  and you will be able to chat to her personally throughout the evening.

Please contact Woodley Library on 01189 690304 for full details and to book your place.

Free ebook download of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone to celebrate 20 years of Magic

26 June 2017 was the 20th Anniversary of the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Pottermore is the global digital publisher of Harry Potter and J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World. To mark the anniversary, they are inviting libraries to join in and celebrate the magic with exclusive activities.

For a two-week period (26 June to 9 July), library users will be able to instantly download Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was published on 26 June 1997, starting 20 years of Harry Potter magic. Library users will be able to celebrate 20 years of Harry Potter by re-reading the magic or discovering it for the first time.

Library users can partake in the celebrations by joining the conversations on social media using #HarryPotter20 or by joining Pottermore’s Wizarding World Book Club https://www.pottermore.com/news/wizarding-world-book-club-coming-soon-to-pottermore which is being launched in celebration of the 20th anniversary.

Do you remember when Harry received his Hogwarts letter, or his first trip to Diagon Alley? Perhaps the moment that resonates with you is when Harry steps onto Platform 9 ¾ and sees the Hogwarts Express for the first time… Whichever moment it might be, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone introduced readers to the magic of the wizarding world.

From an idea born on a train journey to its creation in cafes in Edinburgh, the book started a global phenomenon. It has sold millions of copies in 79 languages, inspired a major movie franchise, a theatre production, has captivated readers all over the world – and continues to do so.

Summer Reading Challenge 2017

Animal Agents is the theme for our summer reading challenge theme for 2017. Animal Agents features characters exclusively designed by the award-winning children’s illustrator, Tony Ross. Help the Animal Agents, a bunch of furry, slippery and 4-legged friends, solve a library mystery – with a huge helping of fun along the way. Children can read whatever they like – fact books, joke books, picture books, audio books. They just have to borrow the 6 books from the library.   Every time they finish a book they’ll receive a sticker to put into a special collectors folder.  When they’ve read 6 books they’ll receive a certificate and a medal for completing the challenge.
