What’s on in Wokingham Borough Libraries for Adults

Woodley Library will host a summer’s evening of Alternative Therapies and Pampering on Monday 17th July. Doors will open at 6.30pm to a packed evening of talks, demonstrations and treatments from a wide range of locally based practitioners and therapists, tickets £3. Decorate with Decoupage-Learn how to add decorative touches to everyday objects to create unique items for your home with tutor Rachel Freegard at Wokingham Library on Saturday July 1, 10am to 1pm, £5 charge. Please call the library to book a place.

Sign up for Book to Film ,an illustrated talk with Tony King which takes a look at well-known titles that have been translated from book to screen at Wokingham Library on Monday July 17, 5.45pm to 7pm, £3 charge. Please call to book a place.

A Just Relax Taster session for Adults, relaxation techniques for parents will take place at Wokingham Library on Wednesday July 12, 10.30am to 11.30am Please call to book a place.

Monday Evening Book Group-join our new evening book group to discuss best-sellers, prize winners and favourites. The group meets at Wokingham Library on the second Monday of the month from 6pm to 7pm, the next meeting is on July 10.

Did you know that Wokingham Library has its own Play Reading Group? The group reads aloud plays from classic to modern drama. This is an informal session with copies of the play plus tea and coffee provided. The next meeting is on Friday July 21, 10am to 12.30pm and on the third Friday in each month.

There is an Adult Storytelling session for people with learning disabilities held at the library on the fourth Friday of each month, 1.45pm to 2.45pm. This is a relaxing drop-in session where we look at poems, picture book and short stories, refreshments are provided. The next session is  on Friday July 28

Art Club – Come and learn about different artists with creative activity. For children aged 7 to 11 years old. £2 charge per session. Places must be booked, by calling the relevant library.

Relax Kids Taster session – Supports children to manage stress, anxiety and difficult feelings. Boosting self-esteem and confidence, whilst having fun.  For children aged 8 to 12 years old. Places must be booked by calling 0118 978 1368, £3 charge. At Wokingham Library, on Monday 10 July from 4pm to 5pm.

Little Stars Taster session – Little Stars teaching children to Shine. Children have fun while learning skills to aid their emotional and physical development.  For children aged 4 to 7 years old. Places must be booked by calling 0118 978 1368,  £3 charge. At Wokingham Library, on Thursday July 13 from 4pm to 4.30pm.

Summer Reading Challenge 2017  

Animal Agents is the theme for our summer reading challenge theme for 2017. Animal Agents features characters exclusively designed by the award-winning children’s illustrator, Tony Ross. Help the Animal Agents, a bunch of furry, slippery and 4-legged friends, solve a library mystery – with a huge helping of fun along the way. Children can read whatever they like – fact books, joke books, picture books, audio books. They just have to borrow the 6 books from the library.   Every time they finish a book they’ll receive a sticker to put into a special collectors folder.  When they’ve read 6 books they’ll receive a certificate and a medal for completing the challenge.

The challenge will run from Saturday 1 July 2017 to Sunday 3 September 2017.

We will be running the following activities over the summer holidays in July, please contact the relevant library to book a place:

Guide Dogs Morning – Just drop into learn and meet guide dogs and their owners. Take part in some fun activities.  At Woodley Library on Monday July 31 from 10am to 12noon.

Farmyard Fun – Come and hear stories and rhymes about farmyard animals and take part in a fun craft activity. For children aged 7 and under. Just drop in, £1.50 charge.  At Arborfield Pop-Up Library on Monday July 31 from 2pm to 2.45pm

Animal Agents Volunteer Activity Sessions – Talk about your Summer Reading Challenge books, storytelling and other fun activities with our Summer Reading Challenge Volunteers.   Just drop in!  At Wokingham Library on Monday July 31 from 2.15pm to 3.30pm

Animal Agents Activity Session – Drop in activity session for children aged 12 and under. £1.50 charge.  At Arborfield Pop-Up Library on Monday July 31 from 3pm to 3.45pm

What’s On in Wokingham Libraries for Teens

Chill Skills Taster session – Chill Skills supports young people feel more confident, improve their learning potential, manage their emotions and be the best they can be! For teens, places must be booked, £3 charge. Places must be booked by calling Wokingham Library on 0118 9781368. At Wokingham Library, on Thursday July 13 from 5pm to 6pm.


Teen Writing Workshops – Igniting Writing, for teens. £4 charge.   Keeping it Real – A full day workshop session on “A slice of life” realistic writing, for teens.   Places must be booked by calling Wokingham Library on 0118 9781368. At Wokingham Library on Saturday July 29 from 10.30am to 3pm.

Self Service Kiosks in our Libraries

Don’t forget you can save time queuing by using our new self service kiosks.  You can use them to return, renew or borrow books and other items. They are available at the following libraries:- Woodley, Lower Earley, Twyford, Winnersh, Wokingham and Finchampstead. If you would like to use the self service kiosks but need a little help the first time please ask a member of staff and they will be happy to help you.
