Launch of the Press Reader Newspaper service

On June 1 we will be launching Press Reader which will provide library customers with a mobile and online version of the world’s largest digital newspaper service. Customers will have access to over 7,000 publications from 101 countries in 60 languages. For more information in June go to  https://bit.ly/2IMWrbF

Reading Well Books on Prescription for Mental Health.

June will see the relaunch of the Reading Well list for mental health. Books on the list are available to borrow or reserve in your local library and they provide helpful information and support for managing common mental health conditions or dealing with difficult feelings and experiences. National Reading Group Day will be held on June 16 this year and is a celebration of book groups all over the country and the positive effect they have on their members. If you would like to find out more about book groups meeting in our libraries visit https://bit.ly/2s0aULq

What’s on in Wokingham Borough Libraries for Adults

How to search for your Family History- Volunteers from the Berkshire Family History Society will highlight all the most productive web sites for family history research, showing what they can offer and how to improve the method of searches. Wokingham Library, Saturday June 23, 2pm to 3.30pm. Free Event

Tie-Dyeing Workshop-Repurpose T-shirts to make new tops and scarves using simple dyeing techniques. Wokingham Library, Saturday June 23, 10am to 1pm £5 charge

Nutrition and Health – Eat Right for the Brain. A talk with nutritional therapist Sasivimol Ahmed at Lower Earley Library, on Tuesday June 19 from 1pm to 2pm. Free session.

National Bookstart Activities this June across Wokingham

National Bookstart Week is an annual celebration of BookTrust’s flagship reading programme, Bookstart.The theme is ‘Bookstart Bird Boogie’. Children who attend any of the events will receive a free copy of the picture book A Busy Day for Birds by Lucy Cousins.

Bookstart Rhymetime at Dinton Pastures Country ParkCome and join us at Dinton Pastures for our National Bookstart Week celebrations for the under 5’s. There will be nursery rhymes, songs and a free book! You can also collect your Bookstart pack too!Monday June 18 10am to 12noon

Wokingham Borough Libraries will be running Bookstart Bird Boogie themed stories and rhyme sessions for parents and children to enjoy together.   Bookstart Bird Boogie Storytimes are aimed at parents with children aged 7 and under and can be found at the following libraries:

  • At Wokingham Library on Tuesday June 5  from  4pm to 4.30pm
  • At Woodley Library on Saturday June 9 from 11am to 11.30am
  • At Arborfield Library on Monday June 11 from  3.45pm to 4.15pm
  • At Lower Earley Library on Monday June 11 from 11.15am to 11.45am
  • At Twyford Library on Tuesday June 19 from  3.45pm to 4.15pm

Children’s Art Week at Woodley Library – Drop in and create, animals, fish & birds for the library’s Land, Sea & Air mural.  Just drop in! At Woodley Library on Tuesday June 12 to Saturday June 16, 2018.

Children’s Teddy Bear’s Picnic Storytime – Bring your favourite cuddly toy and a snack along and join us for this special story time for children aged 7 and under. Just drop in! At Wokingham Library on Tuesday June 19 from 4pm to 4.30pm.

Baby Mindful taster session at Wokingham Library

Baby Mindful classes are deliberately slower to other baby activity classes. Each class is based around a traditional nursery rhyme incorporating a range of activities, which will gently simulate and calm your baby whilst supporting their normal development. For babies from birth to 6 months.
