What’s On in Wokingham Libraries for Adults

Yoga for the Retired- Explore the benefits of yoga with a trained instructor. Free to anyone who is retired

Blitz: Britain and the Luftwaffe 1939-45– Local historian Mike Cooper will be looking at air attacks by Germany against the British Isles, going beyond “The Blitz” of 1940-41 and covering attacks by the “V” weapons £5 charge

First Steps in Acrylics– Learn some basic techniques with Lyn Ebbett. £5 charge.

Heritage Open Days

Wokingham Library will be joining with other organisations in Wokingham to celebrate the heritage of the town, focussing this year on Celebrating Extraordinary Women

The Girl Who Climbed Everest-A Talk with Bonita Norris

Bonita Norris, a former Holt School pupil, tells the story of how she went from novice mountaineer to the top of the world. Bonita’s book will also be available to purchase. This free event is being arranged in partnership with Wokingham Town Council and will take place in Wokingham Town Hall. To book go to:

Reminiscence Club-the theme for discussion will be Extraordinary Women and local links to the Suffragette movement. Just drop-in.

You can also view a display about suffragettes at Wokingham Library and read about their links to the local area. Take part in the suffragette quiz with the chance to win a great prize.

Pirate Day Storytime – Stories and craft for the under 8’s. Just drop in! On Wednesday September 19 at Wokingham Library and Woodley Library, 3.30pm to 4pm

Roald Dahl Day – Share your favourite Roald Dahl Books and try out some of our Roald Dahl activity sheets. Just drop in! On Thursday September 13 at Lower Earley Library 3.30pm to 4.30pm, Wokingham and Woodley Library, 3.45pm to 4.30pm

Summer Reading Challenge 2018 – Mischief Makers

It’s fun, it’s FREE and you can sign up at any of our Libraries until September 2nd. Just read six library books and collect a poster and stickers as you go. Collect a medal and a certificate when you complete the challenge. You must sign up before Sunday 2 September 2018 and you have until Sunday September 16, 2018 to complete.

 Teen Reading Challenge – Borrow 6 books across the summer holidays (runs until 2 September). If you complete the challenge you will be entered into a prize draw for some fantastic book related prizes. 

What’s On in Libraries for Teens

Manga Workshop – With Create a Comic Workshop. £3 charge. Do you love comics, drawing, or creating characters? Why not come and join us on a 6 week comic making ARTventure! Every Saturday will take you step by step through easy to follow lessons, helping you create your very own short comic. Materials will be provided but feel free to bring your own if you prefer.

All sessions run 1pm to 2pm

Session 1 – The Basics of drawing a character Saturday September 8

Session 2 – Facial expressions and storyboarding Saturday September 15

Session 3 – Recap on basics, and dynamic poses Saturday September 22

Session 4 – Pencilling pages. Basics for newcomers Saturday September 29
