Library events for Children and Teens this summer 2019

We will be running the following activities this Summer, in support of the Space Chase – Summer Reading Challenge, please contact the relevant library to book a place:

Apollo@50Get involved in an interactive retelling of the Apollo 11 moon landing, 50 years on with the Science and Technology Facilities Council! Handle Moon rocks, meteorites and even a piece of the planet Mars! Take home your very own sparkly bug and a Dark Sky Discovery star chart. For children aged 7 to 11 years old. Places must be booked.  Woodley Library, Saturday August 10            10.45am to 11.45am

Children’s Chess Club – For young people aged 8 years old and over. Places must be booked. Woodley Library Thursday August 2 3.30pm to 5pm

Family Learning – Play and Learn with Lego – How to help your child learn maths whilst playing. For families with children aged 5-7, younger siblings welcome too. £5 charge. Booking via Adult Education, 0118 974 3797 or adulteducation@wokingham.gov.uk

Family Learning – Storywriting and Puppets – Make simple puppets and learn to help your children develop their story writing skills. For families with children aged 4 and over. £5 charge. Get Arty – Arts and crafts fun on for children aged 4 to 10 years old. Places must be booked, £1.50 charge, Wokingham Library Friday July 26 and August 30                 10.30am to 11.30am

Giant Space Adventures at The Rainbow Centre – Hear about Space adventures and rocket poems followed by an space themed craft activity for children aged 7 to 10 years old. The Rainbow Centre, Winnersh Tuesday July 30 11.15am to 12noon

Guide Dog morning – Just drop into learn and meet guide dogs and their owners. Take part in some fun activities. Woodley Library Monday July 29 10am to 12noon

Handwriting Zoo – The animals guide the children through their perfect letter formation, the giraffes’ tall necks help with the letter ‘h’ and the pigs curly tails help with the letter ‘e’. Free session with Explore Learning, for children aged 4 to 6 years old. Places must be booked.

MAD Science Rocketeers Workshop – Come and learn all about rockets! Then create your own and get them ready for launch. Family friendly workshop with MADscience for children aged 8 to 11 years old. Places must be booked. £5 charge

Recycle-Rocket – Create a rocket or UFO from recyclable items, with an opportunity to learn about recycling as you create. Places must be booked. £2 charge, For children aged 5 to 12 years old.  Wokingham Library Tuesday August 13 10.30am to 11.30am

Rhymetime – Rhymes for under 5’s and their parents, Just drop in! Free Event,  Spencers Wood Library Thursday July 4, 18 August 1, 15 September 5, 19 10.15am to 10.45am

Sand Art– Just drop in and create a sand art picture with Kids Bee Happy with Maddi. £4 per picture, for children aged 4 to 11 years old.

Space Chase with Fred in the Shed – Fred in the Shed’s magic show, his show is fast paced and a mixture of light-hearted fun and comedy magic fit for the whole family and best suited for 3 years olds and upwards. Places must be booked, £4 per child.

Teen Writing WorkshopFanfiction Addiction with Igniting Writing – A full day workshop session on creating Fanfiction, for teens.  £5 charge.  Wokingham Library Saturday July 27 10.30am to 3pm

Winnie the Pooh  Story session – Come and hear some stories from Pooh Corner with Wokingham Stations Guard – Tony Knight. Free event for Families with children aged 8 and under.   Wokingham Library Thursday August 1         11am to 11.30am

Word Problems – Maths seems to get a little more complicated as soon as it starts using lots of words. This workshop will help children tackle these worded problems to become fearless problems solvers. Free session with Explore Learning, for children aged 9 to 11 years old. Places must be booked.
