Summer Reading Challenge 2019
The Summer Reading Challenge 2019 will be called Space Chase, an out-of-this-world adventure inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing. Children taking part in the Challenge will join our super space family, The Rockets, for a thrilling mission to track down books nabbed by mischievous aliens! The Summer Reading Challenge takes place every year during the summer holidays. It’s fun, it’s FREE and you can sign up at any of our Libraries and runs until September 1st. Just read six library books and collect a poster and stickers as you go. Collect a medal and a certificate when you complete the challenge. There will be lots of Space Chase events at libraries this summer. Open to all primary school aged Library members.

Wokingham Winter Carnival 2019 – A Space Adventure Art Competition
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first moon walk this year’s Wokingham Winter Carnival theme is ‘A Space Adventure’. And to make it even more fun we are holding an art competition for children in two age groups – ages 5-8 years and 9-11 years old. The overall winner will get to see their artwork on the front of this year’s programme.
How To Take Part – It couldn’t be simpler to take part, just create a bright and beautiful picture for the Wokingham Winter Carnival that you think shows ‘a space adventure’, remembering that it is for a winter carnival!
Once your picture is complete, write your name, age and your parents or guardian’s email address and telephone number on the back. Then just drop your picture in to any staff member at Wokingham Library before closing on Saturday 14 September 2019. (Pictures can be handed in during opening hours any time after the competition has commenced so entrants do not need to wait until 14 September). If you would like your picture back, please write “please return” on the back and you will be able to collect your picture from Wokingham Library between 2-24 December 2019. Any pictures not collected by this date will be recycled.
Age Categories – Remember our ‘Space Adventure’ competition is split into two age groups: 5-8years and 9-11 years.
Closing Date – Just drop your picture in to any staff member at Wokingham Library before closing on Saturday 14 September 2019.
The Prizes – The winner in each age group will receive an art related prize and will have the opportunity to ride in the Wokingham Winter Carnival Parade on Santa’s train together with up to four family members. (The Parade takes place late afternoon on Sunday 24 November 2019).
