For reading around subjects we have free access to Encyclopaedia Britannica Online and Issues Online. Britannica Online is a top quality, constantly updated encyclopaedia that covers in-depth articles on a wide range of topics as well as articles based around current news topics.

If you are using a library computer you will have automatic access, or you can log on via the library website  and enter your library card number in the box.

Issues Online provides teachers and students with a safe, reliable place to explore today’s most important social issues. It contains hundreds of articles, infographics, videos, assignment ideas and eBooks on topics ranging from human rights and domestic violence to drugs and alcohol.

It is a cross-curricular resource, used most extensively by teachers and students of KS3 and KS4, for subjects such as PSHE, Citizenship, RE, English, Geography, Sociology and Extended Project Qualification.

Key features of Issues Online :

Articles Charities and organisations such as Amnesty International, NHS Choices and the World Health Organisation work with Issues Online to license articles that present different perspectives surrounding a topic. There are over 2,000 articles available, all of which are regularly updated to ensure that content remains current.

Videos For each topic, where appropriate, a selection of videos is embedded. These videos allow students to explore topics in a visual way.

Key Statistics Current information is broken down into the form of graphs, infographics and maps – presenting complex statistics in an easy-to-understand format.
