Struggling to get out and about? The Home Library Service is for you.

Do you know someone who enjoys reading, but with the cold weather and dark evenings finds it difficult to get to the library?

The Home library Service is a free book delivery service for people who may be housebound, recovering from an illness, have mobility problems or are caring for someone.  We arrange for a volunteer to visit regularly with books to match their reading tastes. The service is flexible and free. Robert Wall said “My wife would be lost without her books from the home library service.”

Please get in touch if you know anyone who may be interested in receiving the service.

Further details and an application form are on our website: http://www.wokingham.gov.uk/libraries/library-services/home-library-services/

Winter Reading Challenge for Young People

It’s fun, it’s Free, it’s at your local Wokingham Borough Library this Winter.

Open to all library members aged 4 to 11 years old. Sign up in the library and get a free collectors card, borrow and read three books and you will receive a certificate on completion. We would encourage you to write a book review to add to our Winter Reading challenge wall too. Once complete you can enter our book themed prize draw.

Join the challenge in any Wokingham Borough Library.  The Challenge will run until January 8, 2018.

Have your say

We have two major consultations this winter – Budget Priorities and Transport and Highways – and there’s still time to give us your views.

Wokingham Borough is going through vast changes with new houses, roads, schools and other facilities being built, and towns being transformed – but all while government funding is being reduced.

These two important consultations will be used to help us understand your views on some of the key issues facing our borough, and the main priorities and concerns you have. They are not referenda on exactly how we spend our limited funds or what roadworks to carry out, but your feedback will be used to help us plan the best way forward.

The Budget Consultation will be the first part of a two-year process to help us make the really difficult funding decisions we will face in 2019/20. That is when the basic revenue funding that comes from central government will be cut to zero. So this consultation will ask you about what services you value most and what your priorities are. This will then be followed by a more detailed consultation next year.

The Transport and Highways survey, on the other hand, will help to increase our understanding of how we can best communicate with you on highways issues and how your day-to-day lives are affected by roadworks and other transport matters. It will also seek your views on ways to reduce reliance on using cars, and so reduce congestion.

Both of the consultations will run until 30 December via: www.wokingham.gov.uk/consultation.

Alternatively contact our Community Engagement Team at: communityengagement@wokingham.gov.uk or (0118) 974 6000 to request a hard copy.
